WHERE I HAVE APPEARED I always, until the last several years, tried to keep Classic Salmon as a hobby. I Refused to photograph or publish my flies or thoughts for fear it would interrupt me on the way to mastering the classics. I think I took the correct road because my head was kept clear. The following are some of the happenings on that road. (1) Teaching at U. F. T. was a delight. Met some great people there. (2) Won 3 Salmon Fly Tying Competitions. The first one , l981, was against Bill Wilbur (2nd), Duncan (3rd) and also Bill Hunter (4th). The second was against Paul Jorgenson, Gary Bogler, Jimmy Younger, Bill Hunter, Ron Alcott. I finished lst, 2nd, and 3rd with three flies. I was on my may now. Countries involved were Iceland, Scotland, France, Austria, Sweden, Italy, Australia, Canada and throughout the U.S.A. Judges – Austin Hogan, Trustee of the Museum of American Fly Fisher, Dick Stewart, Author, Dick Surette, Owner Fly Tyer, Bob Rifkin, Editor, Al Brewster, Fly Dresser and Bill Catherwood, designer of saltwater flies and lures . (3) The 3rd was at the Worcester Show. Non of the above participants competed. Dave Philipone was the judge for the salmon category. The following are show I have exhibited at. All the Somerset, New Jersey Shows All the International Symposium Shows All the Marlborough Shows and when it was in Boston F.F.F. Atlantic Salmon Fly Symposium when held in Idaho and Livingston, Montana Several other shows for U.F.T. International Shows in England, Ireland, Holland, Norway and Canada. BOOKS & MAGAZINES I have appeared in Pam Bates-Richards, also, Sills & Smooklers books and magazines. I have great respect for those who exhibit their talents in public so they the public and other upcoming piers can inquire, watch and judge. Photographs can be deceiving and are not a true measure of ones tying talents. There are some flies that have been tied with only one side dressed and when photographed this terrible fault cannot be detected, only by someone very experienced. Make you judgments by what you see carried out.
